Bible Study

The Seekers -This unique class employs a variety of contemporary sources to interpret the stories of the Bible, relate those stories to class members’ personal experience, and to help seekers more faithfully live in the world as disciples of Jesus Christ.  The class will be conducted in an inviting and caring environment that encourages participants to openly express their thoughts, pose their questions, and establish relationships with fellow seekers.  Adults are welcome to join class members as they explore and celebrate the meaning and mystery of the Bible.

The Lectionary Class combines a special balance between serious Bible study and communal spirituality.  Each class session begins with a time of mutual prayer for those in our extended church family in extenuating need, which is followed by a collective study of the Biblical topic of the day presented in the Church Lectionary.  In a three year period, each of the major theological topics of the Bible – Old and New Testaments – are presented.  Rotating teachers serve as discussion leaders prepared for the topic of the day.  They bring to the class information that supplements what the Bible references say, and introduce the discussion after everyone has had a chance to read the text.  After that, class members feel free to express what has developed in their hearts as a result of this study.

The God Said What Class has been in existence for about five years.  We explore Biblical topics which are directed to developing our own personal theologies by trying to understand theology of others.  Our method is discussion following individual study.  Currently we are seeking to learn how the First Century congregations of Christians formed and what they believed and how they expanded; how they were organized.  The letters of the Apostle Paul are a natural way to do this since they represent the earliest writings available to us moderns.  We are using the Books of Acts and the 7 or 8 letters of Paul as our Biblical source.  But we are calling on a book, The First Paul: Reclaiming the Radical Visionary Behind the Church's Conservative Icon by Borg and Crossan as a clue and to avoid long passages from the Bible.

Tuesday Night Bible Study- A welcoming group of men and women that meet every Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm to enhance God's word with the use of contemporary study guides.  Light snack & refreshments are served.
