At Hamilton Christian Academy, our Music Elective program invites students from Kindergarten through 8th grade to experience the joy of music as a gift from God. Through fun, hands-on learning, students develop their musical abilities and learn how to use their gifts to glorify Him.
“Sing to the Lord a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.” – Psalm 33:3
Our elementary music program builds a love for music through the GamePlan curriculum, combining songs, movement, and games to make learning exciting and meaningful.
Kindergarten:
Students explore rhythm and sound using handbells, boomwhackers, and rhythm instruments, learning teamwork and listening skills.
1st & 2nd Grade:
Students begin learning glockenspiels through a color-coded play system, while continuing to play handbells, boomwhackers, and rhythm instruments.
3rd & 4th Grade:
Students advance to learning to play recorders using My Recorder Book and begin learning ukulele through the Rainbow Ukulele curriculum—gaining confidence in reading and playing notes and chords, and in melody and harmony.
As students progress, they move into more advanced instruction and performance opportunities. Every student in grades 5–8 participates in at least one year of either Beginning Guitar or Vocal Ensemble.
Beginning Guitar:
Students learn fundamental techniques using Hal Leonard’s Guitar Method Book. They develop treble clef staff and chord chart reading, strumming patterns, and rhythm skills. They also begin to learn to play simple worship songs.
Vocal Ensemble:
Students grow their vocal abilities through group singing. They learn harmonies, tone, blend, and the joy of leading worship together as one voice.
After completing a year of Guitar or Vocal Ensemble, students may join our Worship Band, where they put their musical gifts into action.
Using resources from the Worship Artistry website, students learn to play and sing modern worship songs while exploring deeper aspects of music theory and band performance.
Instruments offered:
Acoustic & Electric Guitar
Keyboard
Bass
Drums
Vocals
The Worship Band also has opportunities to lead worship at local churches, giving students real-world experience in ministering through music.
Through every stage of our program, our goal is simple:
To help students discover how music can be used to glorify and worship God.
We strive to cultivate:
A lifelong love for music
A strong foundation in musical skills and theory
A heart that seeks to serve the Lord through creative expression
